Caste War of Yucatán

The Caste War of Yucatán (1847–1901) was a significant conflict in Mexico where indigenous Maya people and certain mixed-race groups rebelled against the dominant white-descended population and government. Rooted in long-standing social, economic, and land inequalities, Maya communities sought greater autonomy, land rights, and respect. The war involved guerrilla fighting, and although the rebels faced many challenges, they ultimately maintained some degree of independence and cultural resilience. This conflict highlighted deep divisions in Yucatán society and underscored issues of race, inequality, and indigenous rights in Mexican history.
