CaSR (Calcium-Sensing Receptor)

The Calcium-Sensing Receptor (CaSR) is a protein found mainly in the parathyroid glands and kidneys that detects calcium levels in the blood. When calcium levels are high, CaSR signals the body to reduce calcium production and increase its excretion, helping to maintain a balanced calcium level. Conversely, when calcium is low, CaSR activity decreases, prompting the body to raise calcium levels. This regulation is essential for healthy bones, nerves, and muscles, ensuring proper function and preventing disorders related to abnormal calcium levels.
