Caselaw

Caselaw refers to the body of legal decisions and rulings made by courts that establish how laws are interpreted and applied. When courts decide on a case, their judgment sets a precedent, guiding future cases with similar issues. Essentially, caselaw helps ensure consistency and predictability in the legal system by providing authoritative examples of how laws have been understood in the past. It is an important source of legal authority alongside statutes (laws passed by legislatures).
