Cascajal Block

The Cascajal Block is a notable ancient artifact discovered in Mexico, believed to be one of the earliest examples of writing in the Americas, dating back to around 900 BCE. It is a flat, slab-like piece of stone engraved with dozens of symbols or glyphs that appear to represent a form of early writing system used by the Olmec civilization. These carvings are unique because they suggest one of the earliest known uses of written symbols in the Western Hemisphere, providing valuable insight into the cultural and communication practices of ancient Mesoamerican societies.
