Casagrande

The Casagrande method is a way engineers determine the initial water content needed to easily work with a soil sample, particularly clay. It involves gradually adding water to a known soil sample and then shaping it into a specific mold. By measuring how much water causes the soil to reach a shape that just starts to collapse or slump, engineers identify the soil’s optimal moisture level for compaction or stability. This test helps ensure that soils are properly prepared for construction projects, promoting safety and durability in foundations and earthworks.
