Carthaginians
The Carthaginians were an ancient Semitic civilization based in Carthage, located in present-day Tunisia, flourishing from around the 9th century BCE. They were renowned traders, maritime explorers, and skilled in commerce, establishing a powerful empire across the western Mediterranean. Known for their impressive navies and wealth, they often clashed with the expanding Roman Republic, leading to the Punic Wars. Despite their military successes, Carthage was ultimately defeated by Rome in 146 BCE, resulting in its destruction. Today, the Carthaginians are remembered for their contributions to navigation, trade, and their role in the ancient Mediterranean's history.
