Carter v. Canada (2015)
Carter v. Canada (2015) was a landmark Supreme Court case in which the court ruled that Canada's laws against assisted dying violated the rights of terminally ill individuals. The Court found that prohibiting assisted death infringed on personal autonomy and the right to make decisions about one's own body and life. As a result, the government was required to create a legal framework allowing eligible adults experiencing intolerable suffering to seek medical assistance in dying, respecting individual choice and dignity. This decision led to legal reforms on assisted dying across Canada.
