Carpetbagger Theory

The Carpetbagger Theory refers to the idea that some outsiders or opportunists move into a region during times of change or upheaval, often to gain from the situation rather than to contribute positively. Historically, "carpetbaggers" were Northern Americans who moved to the South after the Civil War to profit from reconstruction. Today, the term is used metaphorically to describe individuals or entities who enter a community or industry primarily to exploit opportunities for personal gain, rather than out of genuine interest or commitment to the area's well-being.
