Caroline Matilda of Great Britain
Caroline Matilda of Great Britain (1751–1775) was a Danish princess, the youngest daughter of King Frederick V of Denmark and Norway. She married King Christian VII of Denmark and Norway at age 15, becoming queen consort. Her marriage faced difficulties due to her husband's mental health and political struggles, leading to her secret affair with Johann Friedrich Struensee, the king’s physician and de facto ruler. This affair caused a scandal, resulting in her arrest, imprisonment, and exile to Horsens. She later moved to Celle, Germany, where she died at age 23. Her life reflects the complex politics and personal challenges of European royal families.
