Carlos Pizarro (politician)
Carlos Pizarro was a Colombian politician and guerrilla leader, originally a member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). He later became a prominent advocate for peace and demilitarization, transitioning into a political figure. Pizarro played a key role in negotiations aiming to end Colombia’s long-standing conflict and founded the political party Alianza Democrática M-19 after the disarmament of the M-19 group. His efforts focused on promoting dialogue and constitutional change, but he was tragically assassinated in 1980, highlighting the violent context of Colombian politics at the time.
