cardiac cycles
The cardiac cycle is the sequence of events that make the heart pump blood. It includes two main phases: systole, where the heart's chambers contract to push blood out to the lungs and body, and diastole, where the chambers relax and fill with blood. During one cycle, the heart first contracts to eject blood, then relaxes to prepare for the next beat. This continuous process ensures oxygen-rich blood reaches tissues and removes waste products, maintaining overall health and function. The cycle repeats about 60-100 times per minute at rest.
