Cardiac calcification
Cardiac calcification involves the abnormal buildup of calcium deposits in the heart tissues or arteries. This process can occur with aging, or due to conditions like atherosclerosis, inflammation, or injury. When calcium deposits form, they can harden the heart tissues or blood vessel walls, potentially reducing flexibility and impairing normal heart function. This can increase the risk of heart problems such as stiffening of the arteries, impaired blood flow, or heart failure. Detection is often through imaging tests, and management focuses on controlling underlying conditions to prevent progression.
