Card skimming

Card skimming is a type of theft where criminals secretly install small devices called skimmers on card readers, such as ATMs or point-of-sale terminals. These devices capture the data from your credit or debit card's magnetic strip when you swipe, allowing thieves to copy and misuse your information. Often hidden or disguised, skimmers can be difficult to detect. Once the data is stolen, scammers may make unauthorized purchases or create fake cards to withdraw money from your account. To protect yourself, always inspect card readers for tampering, cover the keypad when entering your PIN, and report suspicious devices.
