Card-not-present transactions

Card-not-present (CNP) transactions occur when you make a purchase without physically showing your credit or debit card. This typically happens online, over the phone, or through mail orders. Instead of swiping or inserting a card at a physical terminal, you provide your card details—such as number, expiration date, and security code—remotely. Because the card isn't physically present, these transactions can carry a higher risk of fraud. To protect consumers and merchants, additional security measures—like CVV verification or two-factor authentication—are often used in CNP transactions.
