Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Management Protocols
Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning requires prompt recognition and treatment. If poisoning is suspected, move the person to fresh air immediately and call emergency services. Provide oxygen therapy, usually through a mask, to displace CO from the blood and restore normal oxygen levels. In severe cases, hyperbaric oxygen therapy—where the person is placed in a pressurized chamber—is used to quickly remove CO and reduce tissue damage. Monitoring vital signs and assessing neurological status are essential. Once stabilized, identifying and removing the source of CO exposure prevents recurrence. Professional medical care is vital for effective treatment and recovery.
