Caravan of Death
The Caravan of Death was a military operation in 1973 by the Chilean Army shortly after the overthrow of President Salvador Allende. A group of army officers traveled across the country in a convoy, executing political opponents and suspected supporters of the previous government without fair trial. This brutal campaign aimed to consolidate the new regime’s power but resulted in numerous human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings. The Caravan of Death is remembered as a dark chapter in Chile’s history, highlighting the dangers of military repression and the importance of justice and accountability for human rights abuses.
