Captioned Telephone Service
Captioned Telephone Service (CTS) is a communication technology that assists individuals with hearing loss by displaying real-time captions of what the caller is saying on a screen built into the telephone. When the user speaks, their voice is transmitted as usual, and their spoken words from the other person are instantly converted into text on the screen, allowing the user to read the conversation. This service enables effective phone communication for those with hearing impairment, especially during phone calls where auditory understanding alone may be challenging. It is typically provided at no cost for eligible users through government programs.
