Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is a complication that can occur after breast augmentation or reconstruction surgery. When a breast implant is placed, the body naturally forms a scar tissue capsule around it. Sometimes, this capsule tightens and hardens excessively, causing the breast to become firm, distorted, and sometimes painful. The severity varies, with mild cases appearing just firm and more severe cases causing significant changes in shape and discomfort. Treatment options include massage, medication, or surgery to remove or replace the scar tissue or implant. Proper surgical technique and postoperative care can help reduce the risk of capsular contracture.
