Caprivi Strip

The Caprivi Strip is a narrow, elongated corridor of land in northeastern Namibia, stretching about 450 kilometers eastward from Namibia’s border with Botswana. It was created during colonial times to give Germany, Namibia’s colonial ruler at the time, access to the Zambezi River for trade and strategic reasons. The strip separates Angola and Zambia from Namibia and is unique because it narrows and widens, creating a distinct geographic feature. Today, it is an important region for wildlife, tourism, and transportation, serving as a vital link between several nearby countries.
