
Capodistrias (Ioannis Kapodistrias)
Ioannis Kapodistrias was a Greek statesman and diplomat who became the first modern ruler of Greece in 1827, after its independence from the Ottoman Empire. He is known for his efforts to modernize the country’s government, promote education, and unify diverse regional interests. As a skilled diplomat working for Russia and other European powers, he brought international experience to Greece’s leadership. His leadership faced opposition, but he is remembered as a founding figure who laid the groundwork for Greece’s national identity and development as an independent state.
