Caplan's Syndrome
Caplan's Syndrome is a condition that can occur in people with rheumatoid arthritis, particularly those who have been exposed to coal dust or silica. It involves the formation of lumps, known as nodules, in the lungs, which can develop alongside joint symptoms of arthritis. These nodules are usually discovered during imaging tests like X-rays and are caused by the immune system's response to the inhaled dust. While they may not cause symptoms or require treatment, it’s important for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and occupational exposure to be monitored for lung health and any potential complications.
