Capital Purchase Program (CPP)

The Capital Purchase Program (CPP) was a government initiative during the 2008 financial crisis designed to strengthen weakened banks. It provided banks with capital (funds) by purchasing preferred stock, which helped banks increase their financial stability, support lending, and restore confidence. Essentially, the government invested in banks to ensure they had enough resources to operate safely and continue serving customers during a challenging economic period.
