capillary malformations

Capillary malformations, also known as "birthmarks" or "port-wine stains," are caused by abnormally formed small blood vessels in the skin. These visible marks appear as flat, pink, red, or purple patches that can vary in size and shape. They are present at birth and result from abnormal development of capillaries, the tiny blood vessels that carry blood through the skin. While typically harmless, they may darken or thicken over time. Treatment options exist, including laser therapy, to improve appearance or address associated concerns, though many remain stable without intervention.
