Capillary beds
Capillary beds are networks of tiny blood vessels where the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste products occurs between blood and tissues. They connect small arteries (arterioles) to small veins (venules) and have very thin walls, enabling efficient transfer of substances. These beds are essential for delivering oxygen-rich blood to cells and removing waste, playing a critical role in maintaining overall health and tissue function. Their extensive branching creates a large surface area, ensuring that each cell in the body is close to a blood supply for proper nourishment and waste removal.
