Cantons of Rojava

The Cantons of Rojava are semi-autonomous regions in northeastern Syria, established by Kurdish-led groups as part of a social experiment emphasizing decentralized governance and democratic confederalism. They include Afrin, Kobani, and Jazira, each with their own local councils and security forces. These cantons aim to promote communal self-management, gender equality, and coexistence among diverse ethnic and religious communities. While they operate with some independence, they remain part of Syria's broader political context and seek international recognition for their model of grassroots democracy.
