Canis simensis

Canis simensis, commonly known as the Ethiopian wolf, is a rare wild dog native to the highlands of Ethiopia. It is the continent’s most endangered canid, characterized by its slender body, long legs, and reddish-brown fur. Adapted to live in mountain grasslands, it primarily preys on rodents such as molerats. Despite its wolf-like appearance, it is distinct from other wolves and foxes. With only a few hundred individuals remaining, the Ethiopian wolf faces threats from habitat loss, disease, and fragmentation, making conservation efforts crucial for its survival.
