CANDU reactors

CANDU (Canada Deuterium-Uranium) reactors are a type of nuclear power plant that use natural uranium fuel and heavy water (deuterium oxide) as a moderator and coolant. The heavy water allows the reactor to efficiently sustain a nuclear chain reaction without the need for enriched uranium. CANDU reactors are known for their safety features, flexibility in fuel use (including alternative fuels like spent fuel or thorium), and ability to operate continuously for long periods. They generate electricity by splitting uranium atoms, releasing heat, which produces steam to drive turbines and generate power.
