Canakkale Savaşları (Battle of Çanakkale)
The Çanakkale Battles, part of World War I (1915-1916), were a series of fierce conflicts between the Ottoman Empire and Allied forces aiming to control the Dardanelles Strait. The Allies sought to secure a sea route to Russia and open a new front, but Ottoman defenders, including their navy and army, resisted determinedly at Gallipoli. Despite heavy losses, the Ottomans successfully defended their territory, preventing Allied advances. The battles boosted Turkish national pride and are remembered as a symbol of resistance. They also led to the eventual withdrawal of Allied forces and significant strategic and symbolic importance in Turkish history.
