Canadian Wheat Board
The Canadian Wheat Board was a government-regulated organization that controlled the sale and marketing of wheat and barley produced by farmers in Western Canada. Its purpose was to ensure fair prices and stable markets for farmers by pooling their grain and negotiating sales collectively. The Board operated as a single marketing entity, which meant individual farmers could not sell their grain directly to exporters or buyers. It was established to support farmers' economic interests but was privatized in 2012, allowing farmers more freedom to sell their grain independently.
