Canadian Employment Equity Act

The Canadian Employment Equity Act promotes fair treatment and equal opportunity in the workplace by encouraging employers to identify and eliminate barriers faced by designated groups—women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities. It requires federally regulated employers to develop and implement plans that ensure equitable representation and access to employment opportunities. The goal is to create a diverse, inclusive workforce where everyone has an equal chance to succeed, helping address historic disadvantages and promote a more equitable work environment across Canada.
