Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was established to document the history and impacts of the residential school system, where Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their families and culture. Released in 2015, the TRC report details widespread abuses, forced assimilation, and cultural loss. It also offers 94 calls to action aimed at healing, justice, and reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and the Canadian government. The goal is to acknowledge past harms, promote understanding, and foster a more respectful relationship, helping to address ongoing inequalities and injustices faced by Indigenous communities.
