Camp García
Camp García was a U.S. military facility on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, used primarily from the 1940s to 2000. It served as a training and testing site for military exercises, including live-fire drills, often involving naval and Marine units. The presence of the camp and its activities caused environmental concerns and health issues among local residents due to exposure to surrounding contaminants. After years of protests and environmental studies, the U.S. military officially closed Camp García in 2003, and efforts have since been made to decontaminate the site and convert it into a public park.
