Camp Century

Camp Century was a U.S. military research station built beneath the Greenland ice sheet during the 1960s, primarily to study Arctic conditions. It's notable for pioneering underground ice-cap engineering and for secretly hosting a nuclear reactor, which supplied power to the camp. The site was also intended for potential Cold War defense strategies, including the possibility of deploying nuclear missiles. Over time, the melting ice due to climate change has caused the site to become unstable, raising concerns about environmental contamination and the future of the remains beneath the melting ice.
