Cambodian politics
Cambodian politics is dominated by the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), led by Prime Minister Hun Sen since 1985. The political landscape has been characterized by authoritarianism, with limited opposition due to crackdowns on dissent and media. The main opposition party, the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), was dissolved in 2017, leading to further consolidation of power by the CPP. Elections are frequently criticized for lacking fairness, with human rights concerns prominent. Despite recent economic growth, political freedom remains restricted, and Cambodia grapples with issues like corruption and governance challenges within its evolving democracy.
