Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP)

The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) was a major opposition political party in Cambodia, formed in 2012 as a coalition of groups opposing the long-ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP). It aimed to promote democracy, human rights, and social justice. Led by figures like Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha, the CNRP gained significant support, challenging the dominance of the CPP. However, in 2017, the party was dissolved by the Supreme Court amid allegations of plotting to undermine the government, leaving Cambodia’s political landscape largely dominated by the CPP. The dissolution was widely criticized as restrictive to political pluralism.
