Calonne

Charles Alexandre de Calonne was an 18th-century French statesman and finance minister famous for proposing reforms to improve France's struggling economy before the French Revolution. He suggested a more efficient tax system, including taxing the wealthy fairly, reducing government spending, and encouraging economic growth. His ideas aimed to strengthen France’s finances and reduce the burden on common citizens. However, his reforms faced strong opposition from the nobility and parlements (regional courts), leading to political conflict. Calonne's efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, but he contributed to the broader unrest that sparked the revolution.
