California tribes
California tribes are Indigenous groups that have historically inhabited the region for thousands of years, each with unique languages, cultures, and social structures. There are over 150 federally recognized tribes in California, including the Yurok, Miwok, and Pomo, among others. They traditionally relied on hunting, fishing, gathering, and agriculture for sustenance and maintain rich oral traditions, ceremonies, and spiritual practices. Today, these tribes work to preserve their cultural heritage, manage tribal lands, and advocate for their rights and sovereignty within the broader state and federal systems.
