California Legislative Process

The California legislative process begins when a lawmaker introduces a bill, which is then assigned to committee for review and debate. If approved, it moves to the full Assembly or Senate for consideration, where it can be amended. If both chambers pass the bill, it goes to the governor, who can sign it into law or veto it. If vetoed, the legislature can attempt to override the veto with a two-thirds vote. Throughout this process, bills may undergo revisions and hearings to ensure they meet legal and policy standards before becoming official laws.
