California Grape Boycott
The California Grape Boycott was a movement initiated in 1969 by farmworkers' unions, notably the United Farm Workers (UFW), to protest poor working conditions and low wages among grape growers. It urged consumers to not buy California grapes to pressure growers into improving labor rights and pay. The boycott gained national attention and resulted in growers signing contracts that provided better wages, benefits, and humane treatment for farmworkers. It became a significant example of consumer activism leading to social and labor reforms in agriculture.
