Calciotropic hormones
Calciotropic hormones are chemical messengers that regulate calcium levels in the body, ensuring proper functioning of bones, muscles, and nerves. The main hormones are parathyroid hormone (PTH), which increases blood calcium by releasing it from bones and boosting absorption in the intestines; vitamin D, which enhances calcium absorption from food; and calcitonin, which lowers high blood calcium levels by inhibiting bone breakdown. Together, these hormones maintain a balance, keeping calcium levels stable for healthy physiological processes.
