Cahokia Heritage Project

The Cahokia Heritage Project is an initiative dedicated to studying, preserving, and promoting the ancient Cahokia Mounds—an important archaeological site near St. Louis, Missouri. Established by the Mississippian culture around 1050-1350 AD, Cahokia was once a major urban center with large earthen mounds and sophisticated society. The project aims to protect these historic structures, share their significance with the public, and foster understanding of indigenous history and culture. By doing so, it helps ensure the site’s preservation and educates visitors about its historical importance as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
