Cage-free farming refers to a method of poultry management where chickens are not confined to small cages but are able to move freely within a barn or enclosed environment. This system allows the birds to walk, spread their wings, and engage in natural behaviors, which can improve their welfare. However, it does not necessarily mean the chickens have outdoor access or ample space; the animals are still housed indoors and may be densely stocked. The term mainly emphasizes the absence of individual cages, offering a more humane alternative to traditional caged systems.
