C1 Esterase Inhibitor

C1 Esterase Inhibitor (C1-INH) is a protein in your body that helps regulate certain parts of your immune system, particularly the swelling and inflammation responses. It works by controlling another group of proteins called complement proteins, which are involved in inflammation and defense against infections. If you have a deficiency or malfunction of C1-INH, these proteins can become overactive, leading to episodes of sudden, excessive swelling known as hereditary angioedema. Maintaining proper levels of C1-INH is essential for preventing unnecessary or excessive swelling and maintaining immune balance.
