C-MYC proto-oncogene
The C-MYC proto-oncogene is a gene that plays a key role in controlling cell growth, division, and survival. Under normal conditions, it helps cells grow and divide when needed. However, if the C-MYC gene becomes abnormally active or mutated, it can cause cells to grow uncontrollably, which may lead to cancer. Essentially, C-MYC acts as a switch that, when turned on too much, can promote the development of tumors by encouraging cells to proliferate beyond normal limits.
