Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) was a UK government department responsible for promoting economic growth through supporting businesses, encouraging innovation, and developing skills. It focused on helping companies improve competitiveness, create jobs, and develop new products or processes. BIS worked on policies and programs to foster innovation, enhance workforce skills, and support enterprise development. In 2016, it merged into the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Overall, BIS aimed to boost national economic performance by nurturing a dynamic, innovative business environment and ensuring the workforce had the skills needed for future growth.
