Burt's Structural Holes Theory
Burt's Structural Holes Theory suggests that individuals or organizations gain advantages by connecting separate social groups that are not directly linked. These "holes" in a network provide unique access to diverse information, resources, and opportunities. By bridging these gaps, their position—called a "broker"—can facilitate innovation, influence, and control over information flow. Essentially, being in a position to link disconnected groups can give a strategic edge, as it allows access to valuable insights and the ability to coordinate or mediate between different parties.
