Burmese Politics

Burmese politics is shaped by a history of military rule and ongoing struggles for democracy. The military, known as the Tatmadaw, has historically held significant power, often controlling the government directly or influencing it through the constitution. Civilian leaders, like Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), have pushed for democratic reforms, but the military has frequently intervened, including a coup in 2021.
