Burlington Limestone

Burlington Limestone is a natural sedimentary rock formed from the accumulation of marine fossils and mineral deposits over millions of years. Found mainly in the Midwestern United States, it is characterized by its light gray to tan color and fine to coarse texture. Historically, it has been mined for use in building materials, limestone blocks, and agricultural lime. Burlington Limestone also plays an important role in geology for understanding the Earth's past environments and fossil record, as it often contains well-preserved marine fossils that reveal ancient ocean life and conditions.
