Burke and Wills Expedition
The Burke and Wills Expedition (1860-1861) was an Australian effort to explore inland Australia and find a route from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Led by Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills, it was one of the country's most ambitious expeditions. Despite initial progress, the team faced severe hardships from harsh conditions, inadequate supplies, and difficult terrain. Wills and Burke both died near the end of the journey, along with several others. Though they didn't complete the route, their expedition provided valuable geographical and scientific knowledge of Australia's interior.
