Buoyage system
The Buoyage system is a standardized color and shape coding system used to mark navigational channels and hazards at sea. It helps mariners identify safe routes, obstacles, and restricted areas. Lateral buoys indicate the sides of a channel: red buoys mark the starboard (right) side when returning from sea, and green buoys mark the port (left) side. Additionally, special buoys and flashing lights provide information on hazards, boundaries, or specific regulations. This system helps ensure safe navigation by clearly signaling where ships can go and warning about dangers, especially in poor visibility or complex waterways.
